Travel the World at the Children's World's Fair Presented by Dow

Embark on an exciting trek across the globe at the 17th Annual Children’s World’s Fair – Saturday, March 28 at the Louisiana Children’s Museum, 420 Julia Street.

Sponsored by Dow, the Children’s World’s Fair is a unique, daylong journey that explores cultural diversity in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Travelers will delight as they enjoy lively, cultural performances and explore the games, music, literature, native attire, crafts and flavors of destinations including:  Canada, Denmark, Guatemala, Israel, Nigeria, Romania, Tibet, and Venezuela. 


Along the journey, travelers will learn about Inuit igloos and score hockey goals in Canada, don a Viking’s hat and weave jule hjerter (Christmas hearts) in Denmark, and create worry dolls in Guatemala. Explorers will play Kugelach (Israeli jacks) in Israel, make African masks and sample crunchy chin chin snacks in Nigeria, then travel to Romania to decorate intricate Romanian Easter eggs and learn traditional folk dances.  In Tibet, travelers will learn the craft of making authentic sand mandalas and in Venezuela, they will taste pastelitos and boca dulces cakes.

Throughout the day, Dow STEM Ambassadors will highlight the global importance of science, technology, engineering and math with interactive activities and science experiments. Fair-goers will explore sports science, learning about Dow’s #3 Chevrolet NASCAR car, participating in matchbox car races, and posing for a special souvenir photo.  Young scientists will make silly putty using every day household items and discover how to make ice cream using liquid nitrogen. Highlighting Dow’s partnership with FIRST Robotics, guests will work with Legos to build moving robotic parts and enjoy lively demonstrations featuring area high school teams’ robots in action .

Center Stage, sponsored by Pan American Life Insurance Group, will feature special cultural performances including: Venezuelan dancing and drumming, Drepung Gomang Monks chanting, Romanian folk dancing, storytelling with local author Whitney Stewart, and much more! 
 
“Over the course of 17 years, the Children’s World’s Fair has introduced more than 175 countries and regions of the world to children and families in our community,” says Julia Bland, CEO of the Louisiana Children’s Museum. “The Children’s World’s Fair provides children with an appreciation of what is unique and universal to the customs of our global community -- making our big world seem just a little smaller.”

The intergenerational journey will begin with the Early Explorers Patron Party from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Guests will get a first look at the country exhibits and young globetrotters will receive an exclusive patron party treat bag.  Early Explorer packages begin at $100 for a family four-pack; individual tickets are $30.
At 12:00 p.m., all adventurers are invited to join the fun. General admission tickets are $20 per person.  Advance general admission tickets for LCM members are $16 per person.  All general admission tickets purchased on event day are $20 per person.

Proceeds from Children’s World’s Fair benefit the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s educational programs and exhibits. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lcm.org or in person at the Louisiana Children’s Museum during regular Museum hours of operation.
