Young Heroes Awards

Nominate an inspirational child in grades 7 - 12!

By Louisiana Public Broadcasting January 22, 2015
You may get a little overwhelmed with all the bad news about kids today - dropouts, drugs, bullying....

But we probably all know students who are doing well in school, volunteering in their community, or who have overcome physical or emotional difficulties. We are looking for these inspirational kids!

Each year, LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge present the Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Now in its 20th year, the awards honor inspirational students in grades 7-12. Some of our former Young Heroes have overcome physical handicaps, raised money for charity - or started their own charity, cared for family members, assisted hurricane victims, and even saved lives.

To be eligible, a nominee must be a Louisiana resident who is no more than 18 years old and currently attends a Louisiana public or private school. Only previous winners are ineligible for nomination. The child’s parent or guardian must give permission for the nomination, along with permission for Louisiana Public Broadcasting to use the child’s name or likeness on the air in the event they are selected as a winner.

A letter from the nominator explaining why the nominee would be a worthy recipient of the award must accompany every entry form. The nomination may also include supporting materials such as copies of other awards, certificates, newspaper articles, etc. Supporting materials will not be returned.

All entry forms must be received by Friday, February 6, 2015.

Monday, April 27, 2015 will be Louisiana Young Heroes Day in the state of Louisiana. Winners and their families will be honored at an awards ceremony in Baton Rouge.

You can help us find these amazing students!  More information and nomination forms are on LPB's website (www.lpb.org/heroes).

The Louisiana Young Heroes awards are underwritten by CenturyLink, Acadian Companies, and Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge Foundation.
