We should all do our part in protecting our neighbors, medical staff, food service industry workers and ALL front line employees by taking the Stay-At-Home order seriously. We can also help keep our local restaurants on their feet and their staff employed, all while breaking up the monotony of the day-to-day struggle of staying at home.
The CDC and FDA both agree that it’s safe to order take-out and delivery from restaurants, and deem them essential businesses. According to the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there is no evidence of transmitting COVID-19 via food, though the CDC does say that “It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”
Let’s err on the side of caution and take the following steps:
- Keep Your Distance – either by practicing contactless delivery or a quick exchange. Many restaurants are offering to bring your take-out to your car.
- Remove packaging – Go ahead and take that food out of the container and put it on a proper plate and discard of the packaging immediately in a garbage can outside of your house.
- Wash Your Hands – one more time for the cheap seats, WASH THOSE HANDS!
- Sharing ISN'T Caring- this isn’t the time to share beverages or food, if you want to be generous then TIP THE RESTAURANT WORKERS GENEROUSLY!! They need it.
