Sankofa Community Development Corporation will host Bayou Fest, a free, family-friendly, community-centered event on April 19, featuring barbecue, a live DJ, a brass band, and immersive activities at Sankofa’s Wetland Park and Nature Trail, a 40-acre development in in the Lower Ninth Ward, dedicated to recreation and environmental conservation. There is no cost to attend or participate in activities.Sankofa’s Bayou Fest is a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and conservation in honor of Earth Day. This family-friendly event will highlight the park’s transformation into an education, recreation, and environmental awareness hub in the Lower 9th Ward. The event will feature free kayaking, horseback riding, a family fishing clinic, a special Easter Egg Hunt, STEM activities, and more than 15 community partners. Pre-registration is encouraged.
