The New Orleans Department of Sanitation offers several Shred Days throughout the year, where citizens can citizens shred personal and/or sensitive paper goods up to 50 pounds per person. This is a free community service. The last time I did this was back in 2020. I took a bunch of sensitive financial papers and was very pleased with my experience. The process is easy - basically you drive up, an employee is there with a clean plastic garbage can, where you dump your papers. The employee rolls the can over to a mobile shredding unit. There the can is mechanically picked up and the papers are dumped into the unit and shredded. It's quick and super simple! And confidential.
