SAFE SITTER® prepares boys and girls in grades 6 to 8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.
Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who is choking and helpful information like what to do if there is severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR mannequin to practice CPR or choking rescue! The curriculum is medically accurate and developmentally appropriate and includes the following:
• Basic life-saving techniques for choking infant/child and first aid
• Safety precautions to prevent accidents
• How and when to summon help
• Tips on basic child care
• Introductory employment skills
When: Single-day SAFE SITTER® classes are available on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer and designated days throughout the school year. All classes will begin at 9:45 am and end at 4:00 pm.
Where: Classes are held at Junior League Headquarters, 4319 Carondelet St., New Orleans, LA 70115
Cost: $80 per student.
There will be 32 students per class. Students will need to bring their own lunch. The Junior League of New Orleans will provide snacks.
