It’s normal for kids to be a little nervous about starting school for the first time. So, Louisiana Children’s Museum invented Kindergarten Kickoff, sponsored by Mannings Family Children's. This free event will be on Thursday, July 31 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Louisiana Children’s Museum and registration is required.
Kindergarten Kickoff lets families engage with educators, build confidence, and foster a love for learning in children. Parents and caregivers gain valuable insights to ensure a smooth transition for their children into kindergarten.
CEO of the museum Tiffereny White says, "Going to kindergarten is a big deal. Kindergarten Kickoff is a way for everyone to take out the pom poms and celebrate this exciting milestone." She also explains that the mission of the event is to offer practical advice to parents and children that will be useful to them during this transition. One area that is covered is riding the bus. Letting go of a parent's hand and taking that first step onto the big yellow school bus can be a scary time for some children. Beloved bus driver Mr. Mel, with New Orleans Public Schools, will be at Kindergarten Kickoff with his bus, giving kids and parents all sorts of useful information that will help ease any jitters they may be feeling. Soon-to-be kindergartners and parents get to board the bus and listen to Mr. Mel review bus rules and the ins and outs of boarding, sitting, and riding the bus. With this valuable information under their belts, everyone can feel more confident on that first day as the kids venture off to school.
Throughout the Museum, kindergarten teachers interact with parents and provide valuable insights, including a presentation by a Spanish-speaking kindergarten teacher.

• Healthy Eating Activities
• Exercises
With support from the community, the Louisiana Children’s Museum can continue to offer the Kindergarten Kickoff to families at no cost and provide our community the opportunity to celebrate the excitement of starting kindergarten.
