SAFE SITTER® is a comprehensive program designed to prepare boys and girls in grades 6 through 8 with the skills and confidence needed to stay safe when home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. This nationally recognized program provides young adolescents with essential life skills, safety knowledge, and emergency response techniques, empowering them to be responsible and capable caregivers.
One-Day Deep Dive
Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and role-playing exercises, students gain valuable experience in handling real-life situations. One of the most critical components of the SAFE SITTER® curriculum is teaching life-saving techniques. Students learn how to recognize and respond to emergencies, including how to rescue a choking infant or child and administer basic first aid. The course also introduces CPR skills, allowing students to practice on mannequins to gain confidence in their ability to assist in life-threatening situations. This one-day session will give your child immense knowledge.
Safety When Babysitting or Home Alone
Safety is a top priority in SAFE SITTER®. Students are taught key safety precautions to prevent accidents and injuries while caring for children or staying home alone. They learn how to assess potential hazards in the home, respond to severe weather emergencies, and handle unexpected situations with confidence. The curriculum also emphasizes the importance of summoning help when necessary, teaching students when and how to call for emergency assistance.
Child-Care Techniques
In addition to emergency response skills, SAFE SITTER® covers fundamental child-care techniques. Participants learn how to properly feed, diaper, and engage young children in age-appropriate activities. They also explore ways to effectively manage children’s behavior, fostering a safe and enjoyable environment. By understanding the responsibilities of child care, students will be prepared to handle the challenges of babysitting.
First Time Entrepreneurs
Another vital aspect of the program is its focus on introductory employment skills. Babysitting is often one of the first jobs young adolescents take on, and SAFE SITTER® provides guidance on how to manage babysitting as a business. Students learn how to communicate with parents, set fair wages, and demonstrate professionalism, helping them build confidence as responsible caregivers.
