(Reading Enrichment and Development) to participate in this dynamic, early literacy program.
What Do the "Grown-up and Me" Classes Look Like?
This class is designed to make positive connections between you, your child, and reading starting at an early age. Incorporating books into those special bonding moments helps children associate reading with positive feelings. Children who begin the class at 4 months old are read to while sitting on their caregiver's lap, making this class an extension of their earliest reading experiences. Older children engage in activities focusing on developing the early literacy skills needed to prepare their brains to read independently.
Classes focus on introducing language through playful songs, fingerplays, and hands-on activities, making reading feel magical! Each class features a delightful mix of routine and fresh songs and books. From singing to sensory activities, classes are created to nurture your child’s love for reading and learning.
What is Early Literacy?
Early literacy encompasses the foundational skills a child needs before they read independently, including enjoying books, recognizing print, understanding letters, growing vocabulary, and engaging with sounds and rhymes.
Led by Jenifer Kelly-Strauss, a former Pre-K teacher and R.E.A.D. parent, the program offers children a fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experience. R.E.A.D. was founded in 2002 by Marilyn Levin, an expert in early literacy who has spent years helping young children develop a love of learning. With a focus on fun, creativity, and hands-on learning, R.E.A.D. makes reading and language magical and exciting!
