Parent Education with Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans

Parenting is a constant learning process, and Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans(FHF of GNO) is YOUR resource center. Their goal is to provide you with the knowledge, support, and confidence you need to be the best advocate for yourself or your family member. Their services are always free of charge, offering workshops, online classes, digital resources, referrals, training and education, and peer-to-peer support on issues related to disability. While FHF of GNO is structured to assist and educate parents of children with disabilities (or not neurotypical), their content will aid any and all parents of children of various abilities!

Topic 1: Mental Health Strategies for School-Aged Children
Presenters: Rochelle Gauthier, LCSW-BACS, Coordinator for Autism and Behavior Supports for Jefferson Parish Public Schools and Todd Cirillo, LCSW-BACS, Trauma Therapist for the AWARE Grant for Jefferson Parish Public Schools and Crisis Team Manager.
This session will cover Mental Health for School-Aged Children living with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health issues. We will learn to identify the signs of crisis and discuss hands-on de-escalation strategies.

Topic 2: The Coordinated System of Care (CSoC) in Louisiana
Presenters: Brandi Johnson, LPC, Director of Clinical Services at Magellan Health; Desiree Godfrey, M. Ed, LPC, CSoC Liaison, Office of Behavioral Health; and Sarah Chappuis, MS-HCM, Wraparound Lead Coach.
This session will cover the history of the Coordinated System of Care (CSoC) in Louisiana, the guiding principles of wraparound services, the processes and roles that providers and contractors play, and how to make a referral.
