Set to Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score with both new choreography and choreography modeled after the original work by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa, Swan Lake is a pillar of excellence in classical ballet. Since its original debut in Moscow in 1877, it has grown to become one of the most popular and famous story ballets of all time. Its plot has all the elements of a true classic: tragedy, love, betrayal, and forgiveness, told through the love story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, a maiden who has been turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Baron von Rothbart.
This four-act ballet will be presented with one intermission. New Orleans Ballet Theatre (NOBT) principal artists Jo-Ann Sundermeier and Josh Reynolds will dance the roles of Odette/Odile and Prince Seigfried, respectively.
