This May 24th and 25th, the professional dancers of New Orleans Ballet Theatre (NOBT) will present a new production of the timeless and enchanting Cinderella. This year will mark the second year the company has expanded its season to include a spring full-length classic ballet presented at the historic Orpheum Theater downtown.
Premiering with NOBT in the leading roles of Cinderella and Prince are Gabriela Mesa and Fabian Morales, former dancers with the world-renowned National Ballet of Cuba and current principal dancers with Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami. Felicia McPhee, NOBT principal dancer best known for her roles as Dew Drop Fairy in the Nutcracker and Myrtha in Giselle, will return to the stage in the role of the Fairy Godmother.
Several of these aspiring pre-professional students will be gracing the stage with the professional dancers in this year’s Cinderella performances.
For sixteen years, New Orleans Ballet Theatre has set the standard of excellence in dance in New Orleans through its season of dance, consisting of full-length ballets, contemporary productions, and the Nutcracker performances. It also houses the prestigious Summer Intensive program held in June for pre-professional students.
Consistent with NOBT’s belief that quality ballet should be accessible to all regardless of background, New Orleans Ballet Theatre is continuing to expand its outreach program and will donate over 400 tickets to local New Orleans schools and organizations where at least 75% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
