Sensory Friendly Sundays offer an opportunity for families with children with disabilities or sensory processing differences to explore the museum in a comfortable and accepting setting!
This monthly program is held in partnership with LSU Health Sciences Center’s Occupational Therapy Department. Representatives from LSU Health and Health Sciences will be on hand to answer questions, deliver activities, and provide resources to parents and families. In addition, Whole Village Art Therapy will provide thematic art activities each month too.
Quiet spaces, noise-cancelling headphones, and sensory toys are available (limited number, please ask!)
I've taken my children, Miriam, 3, and Jonah, 5, (pictured above) to Sensory Sunday multiple times. These pictures are from the January Sensory Friendly Sunday, which had a New Year's theme to it! My kids can't get enough. It is perfect for my son. He has Down syndrome, and not having a crowd when he wants to play at his own pace is very appreciated. Siblings and family members are also included. The LSU Students interact and engage the kids in hands on activities. It's exciting to see offerings like Sensory Friendly Sunday for our exceptional kids in NOLA!
