Check Out Lil' Yats Art & Play Studio for Kids in Lakeview!

By Anne Elam November 9, 2017

If you haven’t checked out our sponsor, Lil’ Yats Art & Play, put it on your list of things to do with (or without!) the kids! Christine, founder of Lil’ Yats Art & Play, is a professional artist and former nanny. With her experience, she has created a unique space for kids to get artistic and creative. As soon as I walked in, I knew Lil’ Yats was a labor of love where every detail was thought through and executed. They even have complimentary coffee for parents! There really is something for every kid, no matter his or her age. Kids can participate in art projects or engage in creative play, both in the toy area or in the gated outdoor space. Moms are also welcome to get crafty, so get those Mardi Gras purses and shoes and head to the studio!

My two-year-old twins and I met my friend and her son at Lil’ Yats last week and had a blast during their morning Toddler Time. I was able to catch up with my friend a bit while the kids played in the toy area. With the stage, puppet theater, busy wall, kitchen, and costumes, the kids never seemed to run out of things to do. Christine also had several art projects at different stations. My son, the wild child, actually sat down to paint for a few minutes, and my daughter did three different projects! I thought Christine did a fantastic job providing age-appropriate art projects that toddlers can actually accomplish with some initial guidance. We spent a full two hours at Lil' Yats, which is huge for my two year olds, and can't wait to go back!

Lil' Yats offers several ways for your child to play and get creative:

Walk-in Play
During walk-in hours, yats of all ages are welcome to engage in creative art and play! Our Art Studio provides daily project stations with materials while our Play studio is open for pretend and interactive play.
Visitors always have the option to add wood and fabric paint projects from our "Art al la Carte" section. Walk-in play is available during all open hours unless a private event is taking place.

Open Studio
Open studio is a great time for yats of all ages to create even more freely. There is no structured project during this time. Instead, guests have more open access to craft and recycled materials to create endless masterpieces. This is a great time for kids to work on that Pinterest or messy homework project. Moms can also bring in those shoes and purses to glitter! Imagine and create while leaving the mess with us!. Open Studio is every Friday from 2pm - 6pm.

Classes
Classes start for ages one year and older. Our programming has a loose structure to allow children to relax and take hold of their own creativity while advancing their artistic techniques. Classes are held in the Art Studio and will include access to the Play Studio. Classes are open-ended and children are welcome to join at any time. All supplies are included. Please visit our Classes page for more details.

Parties
Have your next party or event at Lil' Yats! You come up with the theme and we'll turn it into a creative experience. Just bring the food, drinks and tableware, and we'll provide the rest. You'll have private access to both of our studios for 2 hours. Please visit our Parties page for more details.
