June and July are blueberry picking months!
Picking your own berries is a really fun time for everyone in your family. Even the little ones can get in on the action. Besides just popping the delicious fruit right in your mouth, you can have a great time in the kitchen with your kids making blueberry smoothies, muffins, pie, cobbler, cookies, ice cream and more. You can also put it on your cereal or in your yogurt. We all know blueberries taste good, but did you know they contain the most antioxidants of any fruit? Plus they have been proven to reduce DNA damage which helps to protect against aging and cancer!
A 1 cup serving (148 grams) of blueberries contains:
Fiber: 4 grams.
Vitamin C: 24% of the RDA.
Vitamin K: 36% of the RDA.
Manganese: 25% of the RDA.
For the optimal picking experience, go in the early morning to avoid the extreme heat, wear sunscreen, and a hat. It's rained so much lately you should definitely wear your rubber boots.
