Summer Reading Program - New Orleans Public Library

Hundreds of fun programs planned for kids, teens and adults!

May 23, 2017

The New Orleans Public Library's much loved Summer Reading Program will be better than ever this year!

Hundreds of entertainment and educational events for children, teens, and adults are planned. In addition to all of the events, those who sign up for the program will receive prizes and rewards for reading and accomplishing tasks, like reading 800 pages, entering our Adult Writing Contest, or attending a library program. This year there are many traditional library programs scheduled, like story times, crafts, and book clubs, but we also have many exciting and unexpected programs.

Children will have the opportunity to participate in a NASA science demonstration, watch magic shows, have a hands on experience with wetland creatures from the Audubon Wetlands Express team, and much more. In previous years, the Summer Reading Program was originally developed only for children, but for the past three years events for teens and adults have been included.

This year for teens are offered a coding workshop where they can learn how to transform an original story into animation by learning basic coding, they can learn basic bike repair, and many other cool things for teens. For adults, the library has several of their successful wine and coloring events planned, "Know Your Rights" workshops with the ACLU, as well as Library Yoga classes, and much more, including a very popular Murder Mystery Party.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program is open now, and the events begin in June and run through late July. Registration information and the full schedule of Summer Reading Program events can be found on the website, nolalibrary.org, or at any library location.
