Don't worry if you are not currently a member of a New Orleans museum. All participating institutions will allow you to buy membership upon arrival to immediately get the full benefits of Museum Month.
TIP: The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, WWII Museum and the Contemporary Arts Center are all really close together within walking distance of each other, so if you wanted to do an ultimate marathon museum adventure day you could hit all three in one day. Of course, this might mean less time at each museum, but it's one option of visiting museums with the kids.
