The Pizza Poetry Project

For writers ages 6 - 18

April 7, 2016
The Pizza Poetry Project celebrates National Poetry Month and the power of youth voices by publishing poems by New Orleans’ writers ages 6-18.

Working together with some of the best pizza joints in town, Big Class will publish poems of all kinds on pizza boxes, for delivery and pick up on April 15, 2016. This year, pizza eaters/poetry readers should post their poems on social media using #pizzapoetry16.

On April 15, all delivery and pick up orders from Dolce Vita, Garage Pizza, Pizza Delicious, and Reginelli's Pizzeria Uptown, Garden District, and Poydras locations will feature poems by New Orleans youth writers.

Festivities highlighting the accomplishments of these poems and their writers will continue with a Pizza Poetry Party on April 27. Poetry will also be collected in a Big Class book, and Pizza Poet Laureates were selected for their excellence in poetic expression!

The Pizza Poetry Project seeks to reveal a vibrant and supportive poetry community in New Orleans that celebrates youth writing and poetry in general.

For the entirety of the project, Big Class makes updates to the Pizza Poetry Blog. Check in to find writing prompts, inspiration poems and stories, poetic discussions and interviews, and much more. Educators should reach out to pizzapoetry@bigclass.org with any questions, or if they'd like Big Class volunteers or staff to come to their school to introduce the project.
