R.E.A.D. Winter Session Giveaway

Early Literacy Program for 12 months - 6 years

By Nicole Provosty December 1, 2011

My week began with a fun visit to Marilyn Levin's R.E.A.D. class on Monday. What a treat! I loved hanging out with all the adorable children and their parents. I'm guessing most were right around 2 years old.

There were books, singing, puppets, musical instruments, bubbles, and Willoughby the elephant (R.E.A.D.'s cute mascot), all based around the theme of the week, Hanukah, celebrating the Festival of Lights. Next week's theme is Jingle Bells, with books and songs full of Christmas fun.

Of course at this age, the goal is not to teach the toddlers to read, but to foster their love of books. Marilyn says, "If you can get them to respond to literature in some way, it becomes part of who they are." The basic goal of the class is to create a life long love of books and boost your child's literacy skills - all through creative play.

Here's what really struck me: At the end of the class, parents were coming up to Marilyn, chatting about their plans to enroll in the next session, which starts in January. Obviously, parents and their children love R.E.A.D.!

I asked 3 moms why they love R.E.A.D. Click here to take a listen.
