Looking for a place with beautiful statuary, majestic oaks, and history to cool off with your kids, under a canopy of shade no less? New Orleans Audubon Park is the place. Try this wading pool and fountain, circa 1929, "given to the little children of New Orleans" by New Orleanian Sara Lavinia Hyams. She bequeathed her $30,000 jewelry collection, to be sold and the profits used to construct a fountain in both Audubon Park and City Park.
This is a wonderful venue for a picnic or to gather with friends, or a playgroup.
Bring a towel, pack a lunch or snacks, and laze the day away!!
It's so easy to find, yet hidden. Here's how to get there: It's situated in Audubon Park, in front of the horse stables, near the zoo. It is located in the green field between the zoo parking lot and one-way street leaving the Fly toward Magazine St.
Park in the zoo lot near the Audubon Tea Room or the new pool. Walk down the shell path, about 100 ft., toward the stables, wading pool is on the right. No official hours, but you want to wait until it warms up enough for kids to play in water.
