Hooray for reading! Yay for books!

This Saturday, many libraries in both Orleans and Jefferson Parish are hosting kick off parties for the 2015 summer reading program. Below is a list of parties and what is happening at each one. Find your branch and head over for free fun and to sign up for the summer reading program.

The super hero themed summer reading program is a great way to reduce your kids screen time. Keep their heads in the books and away from the TV, phone, tablet and computer!

In Orleans Parish, when a child signs up they receive a free book to take home, a bookmark and a reading log to keep track of the books they read. After reading 8 books or 800 pages, kids receive a certificate of completion and other rewards. After reading 20 books or 200 pages, kids receive a tote bag, a Bookworm Certificate and other rewards. These could be a Wendy's Frosty coupon, pass to the Aquarium, Raising Cane's coupon, and an Adventure Quest Laser Tag coupon, while supplies last.

In Jefferson Parish, the prize program is different for kids and teens - click here to learn more.

Along with the reading program comes lots of free entertainment! The Children’s Summer Reading Program offers 200+ free programs for children ages 0 to 12. Programs are held at all library locations through July. Click here for a schedule.
