Ropes Course at Audubon Zoo

March 26, 2015
Kamba Kourse, a four-story adventure ropes course, will celebrate its grand opening at Audubon Zoo on Sunday, March 1. The climbing structure is located in the African Savanna across from the giraffes.

Kamba Kourse stands 44 feet high and features three levels with platform heights at 12 feet, 24 feet and 36 feet consisting of nearly three dozen elements designed to test agility, balance and strength for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Participants can spend about half an hour navigating the course, choosing a path through rope elements at their own pace with the option to pass others at any time.

The rope elements include zig-zag swinging beams, crisscross angled rope ladders, bridges with spaghetti hand lines and cargo nets. The structure occupies 5,250 square feet and can accommodate about 50 guests at a time.
The attraction is kid-friendly, offering a scaled-down version of the full-sized ropes course for children aged 2 through 7, or less than 48 inches tall.

The Sky Tykes ropes course has nine elements that stand only two feet, eight inches from the ground, which allows for easy parent participation for any level of assistance needed. Adults can walk alongside their child or simply step back and watch.

Kamba Kourse is next door to Watoto Walk, the new petting zoo that opened recently in the African Savanna.
Watoto Walk resembles a Masai village that might be found on the plains of Kenya or Tanzania and the ropes course complements the African theme. Watoto is Swahili for “children’’ and Kamba is Swahili for “ropes.’’

Per person admission to Kamba Kourse is $15 and the Sky Tykes child’s course is $8. Audubon Nature Institute members will receive a 10 percent discount. The attraction will be open during regular Zoo operating hours.
Audubon Zoo is located at 6500 Magazine Street. Regular admission is $18.95 for adults, $13.95 for children 2-12 and $14.95 for seniors 65+. Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free of charge.
