Dance Auditions - New Orleans Ballet Association

Tuition Free Summer Intensive Program

February 27, 2015
The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA), in partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), will host auditions on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8 for its multiple 2015 Tuition-Free Summer Intensive Programs held in June and July.

Motivated students ages 9 to 18 will have the opportunity to study with an exceptional faculty of visiting and local artists representing some of the world’s biggest names in dance. With lead support of Chevron through the Chevron Master Artist Series, past artists have included The Joffrey Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Hispanico, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Parsons Dance,  Limón Dance Company, Ballet West, Stephen Petronio Company, Armitage Gone! Dance, Paul Taylor Dance Company, among others.
“Chevron is pleased to once again be able to bring the Summer Intensive Programs and Chevron Master Artist Series to life with NOBA and NORDC,” said Sakari Morrison, General Manager of Chevron Public Affairs. “It is our firm belief that bringing these programs to students in the Greater New Orleans area prepares them for college, the workforce and beyond. Having world-class dance companies participate only speaks to the power of collaboration and the strong arts culture that this community enjoys.”

Students will benefit from a dynamic, rigorous schedule of technique classes in multiple forms of dance; choreography and repertory sessions; workshops in dance history, music, health and wellness; and sessions about pursuing dance in college and beyond. The program culminates in professionally produced performances for all participating students.

“NOBA exposes youth to some of the industry’s most notable teachers, choreographers, directors and dancers. It is unparalleled in its reach, and sets a standard for excellence through diversity on all levels by using the art of dance to create unity within a community that is an example of a world we all hope to live in,” says Dwight Rhoden, Artistic Director of Complexions Contemporary Ballet.

“As a second year student in the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, I know how valuable NOBA's program is. Many of the companies that NOBA brings down throughout the year are the same companies I work with while in school in New York!” says Malerie Dempster, 2014 Summer Intensive student and NOBA alumna.
