There are 3 great classes happening at Therapeutic Learning Center, a progressive pediatric based clinic owned by two registered and licensed occupational therapists. New on the list is the Preteen Acceptance Club with behavior therapist Kate Lacour starting January 29. Returning to the line up is the Social Skills for 6 - 8 year olds in January and a Handwriting Clinic in March. Read more below.
Preteen Acceptance Club
We are excited to announce our new group here at TLC. We will be starting our new PAC group (Preteen Acceptance Club) with Kate! Kate Lacour is our new behavior therapist who will be leading this club for preteen girls for 6 weeks. This fun and supportive group is for girls who need some extra help navigating the challenging world of social skills. The group will focus on teaching girls the unwritten rules of social conduct to help them form friendships with one another and with other peers. Special attention will be given to social problem-solving and to topics specific to girls, such as body image and popularity. Modeling, role play and creative activities will be used to teach and practice new skills. PAC is intended for girls 9-12 years old or those girls mature enough for this group. Puberty and physiological body changes will not be discussed. The focus will be on the social challenges and body image issues for this age range. A prerequisite to attend this group is the ability to sit with some focus for 30+ minutes and be able to use basic conversational language.
PAC will run for 6 weeks on Thursdays at 5pm, beginning March 5 at Gates of Prayer (Room 12). The group will last about an hour. The cost of the 6 week PAC group is $140. Social Skills for 6-8 year olds
Led by our behavior therapist, Kate Lacour, this group is geared for children with and without learning disabilities, social skill issues or fall somewhere on the autism spectrum. The class will provide a safe, small group atmosphere to develop conflict resolution skills and improve social thinking. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in cooperative team building activities while gaining the ability to build meaningful relationships. The group will meet on January 29nd from 4:30-5:30pm and will run for 6 weeks. The cost of the 6 week social skills group is $180. Handwriting Clinic
Based on the well known curriculum "Handwriting Without Tears", this class helps K-5th graders improve their overall handwriting including uppercase, lowercase, and script. We will focus on letter and number formation, letter and word alignment, pencil grip and desk posture. The Handwriting clinic will begin on Monday, March 2nd and last through March 25th. The clinic will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5pm. The cost of the 4 week clinic is $275.
