By Christine Todd January 22, 2015
What was your favorite song as a child?  What music do you enjoy today? Have you ever wondered what you can do to nurture the musical growth of your own child?

Experience Music Together® and find out how important and enjoyable your role can be!

Started over 20 years ago, Music Together® pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement. Classes take place in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting. Music Together® teaches basic music competency and helps parents to create a rich musical environment at home, regardless of their musical abilities.

There are 10 weekly 45-minute classes teaching a new song collection every fall, winter and spring (6 in summer). During each class, parents are encouraged to participate by singing and participating in dance/movements while allowing their child the freedom to participate at his/her own pace. You won't see a parent clapping their child's hands for them or telling their child that he/she isn't "doing it right". Classes are built on your child's natural enthusiasm for music and movement. Activities include singing, dancing and instrument jams.

The learning continues at home as each family is given two CD’s of the semester’s music and access to the online Family Music Zone. You can play the music at home and in your car. Through the family music zone you can now also download songs to your mobile devices and access them anywhere, extend classroom learning with extra activities for home, learn more about your child’s music development from Music Together experts, and watch fun videos featuring families like yours!

As a native New Orleanean, mother of two, veteran of parent programs such as Infancy to Independence, Music Together Classes and Waldorf Parent Child Groups, I am pleased to be operating Crescent City Music Together and giving other parents the opportunity to teach and interact with their child in a setting away from the pressures of home.
