Auditions for Star-Studded, Tuition-Free Summer Ballet Programs

The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA), in partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) and through extraordinary support provided by Chevron, is proud to announce auditions on February 8 and 9 for its 2014 tuition-free Summer Programs, which are designed to give motivated students ages 9 to 18 the opportunity to study with an exceptional faculty of visiting and local artists.

Each program, which culminates in professionally produced performances, features a rigorous schedule of technique classes in various forms of dance, choreography and repertory sessions, and workshops in nutrition, dance history, music, and more. Last year’s visiting artists represented San Francisco Ballet, Parsons Dance, Ballet Hispanico, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
 
To audition for the multiple summer programs available, students are required to have a minimum of two years of ballet training:
 
Young Dancer Programs for Ages 9-12: Daytime Session (June 16 through 27) and Evening Session (July 7 through 30).
 
Intensive Programs for Ages 12-18: For advanced/intermediate levels: July Summer Intensive (July 7 through August 1).  Students accepted and enrolled in the July Summer Intensive may also participate in the June Chevron Master Artist Series (June 2 through 20). For beginner/intermediate levels: Teen Dance Session (July 7 through 25).

The Young Dancer Sessions (Daytime: June 16 through 27 and Evening: July 7 through 30 ) for ages 9-12 offers serious young dancers the opportunity to flourish in a professional, yet nurturing environment, and focuses on building a solid foundation in ballet and modern technique, with additional classes in various dance forms, nutrition, and other workshops.
 
The July Teen Dance Session (July 7 through 25) for beginner and intermediate students ages 12-18, is led by an outstanding faculty of local and guest artists who will provide a solid foundation in ballet and modern technique, with additional classes in pointe or pre-pointe work, choreography/repertory, nutrition, and other dance forms such as hip hop, character, jazz, Brazilian, Haitian, and African.
 
The July Summer Intensive (July 7 through August 1) for serious, advanced and intermediate students ages 12-18 features technique classes and hands on choreography and repertory sessions, headlined by Limón Dance Company guest instructors, as well as artists from top dance companies to be announced.
 
Students accepted into the July Summer Intensive will also have the opportunity to participate in the June Chevron Master Artist Series (June 2 through 20), which includes three, one-week intensives in technique, choreography, and repertory with internationally acclaimed artists. Students and are encouraged to attend as many weeks as possible to obtain the greatest benefit from the program.
