Giveaway – Win Latin Dance Classes for You & Baby
Get ready to dance salsa, merengue, & bachata together!
By: Erin L. ~ Dance Instructor
With a family tree full of dancers, I grew up knowing that I needed dance in my life. It wasn’t until my late twenties, though, that I found my place in the dance world: Latin was “It” for me! When I found myself moving to Dallas, I wasted no time; I jumped into the lively salsa scene there by taking classes, joining a performance group, and teaching with my partner.
While I was busy fulfilling my dance dreams, I was simultaneously dreaming of the family I hoped I would one day have. My wish was to be living near my parents and relatives in New Orleans, to start a family with my Mr. Right, to be active in the community, and of course, to keep dance a part of our lives, always. I feel very fortunate that the most important of those puzzle pieces are already in place – I live here now, along with my amazing husband and two-year-old son!
We dance plenty at home, but now I’m ready to take it out of the living room and share the fun with others. So, I’m starting a class to introduce toddlers and their parents to the music and dances I love the most: salsa, bachata, and merengue. The toddlers will love moving to the captivating beats; plus, they’ll gain physical confidence and get practice with balance and rhythm. Meanwhile, the parents will get to enjoy a dance class without having to hire a babysitter!
I’m lucky to have the family support that I do, but still, I’ve been surprised at how difficult it is to fit any “me” time around raising a toddler. I know I’m not alone: most parents seem to feel starved of time to make social connections, explore new hobbies, and exercise. In creating a Latin dance class that serves both toddlers and parents, I hope to meet some of those needs, as well as to provide a fun and healthy activity for our little ones. Last but not least, I want to bring dance to more families’ lives because I find that it’s an incredible way to connect with our children and with others in the community.
