If you’re looking for a fun day with the family or maybe you’re looking to get your feet wet in your first 5K, the YMCA Corporate Cup: Second Line for Literacy 5k is the place to start!
Feel free to walk, run, or second line your way to the finish line! You can bring the kids along the route with you if you want (there’s even a stroller start for families with strollers who want to participate, but don’t want to get caught up in the crowd) OR you can feel completely comfortable dropping your kids off at the YMCA staffed, safe, secure and FREE “Kids Corner” while you compete. At Kids Corner, your children will be checked in; you’ll get a wrist band allowing only you to pick them up and you can breathe easy knowing they’re having a great time playing, bouncing, participating in fun activities and enjoying yummy snacks while you compete. Then after you rock that 5K, your children ages 2-12 can compete in the kids only half mile fun-run held on the City Park Practice Track. Each participant receives a t-shirt and a prize!
After all that great exercise is out of the way, the entire family can enjoy live local music from the Stooges Brass Band, free food from great local restaurants like Acme Oyster House and Zea’s Rotisserie as well as free beer from Covington Brew House and Southern Eagle Distributing.
Last but not least, not only are you doing something great for your family by participating in the race, you’re also helping a great cause in our community. The proceeds from the race benefit the YMCA Educational Service’s (YES!) adult education programs. YES! provides programs in our community FREE of charge to adults looking to improve their lives through education. Students have the opportunity to learn everything from basic literacy and math skills, to how to help their children with homework, to everything they need to know to prepare themselves for success on their GED exam.
