How I Survived My First Year of Motherhood

22 Resources in New Orleans for New Parents

By Nicole Provosty July 21, 2016
When my first son was six weeks old, we started attending the free Tuesday morning Snuggles and Struggles group at the Parenting Center...religiously. For me, it was a reason to get dressed and out of the house with my infant, socialize with other moms, and talk and commiserate about this new thing called motherhood. It was my lifeline to the outside world, beyond the confines of breastfeeding, changing diapers, soothing my crying baby, and feeling alone and frustrated.

When he got a little older, we joined the Parenting Center as members and began coming to the playroom and playground nearly daily. We loved (and love) this place! Besides being the perfect spot to hang out with your child and other parents and children, the Parenting Center provides classes, book and video lending libraries, and playrooms both Uptown and in Metairie.

Some classes are for everyone and some for members only. Thinking you might like to join? The cost runs between $50 - $100 annually, depending on what membership you choose. Call 504-896-9591 or email parenting@chnola.org to register. Be sure to tell them you saw it in Macaroni Kid!
