Summer Camp at the Louisiana Children's Museum

The Louisiana Children’s Museum is the cool place to be this summer with a variety of weekly themed camps for children ages 5 to 8 that explore food, art, culture, theater, and more. Plus, children ages 7 to 10 will enjoy four distinct art camps where they will use mixed media to create individual works of art, exploring Louisiana artists, architecture, nature, and the art and history of printmaking.

Theme Camps (5 - 8 years)
 

6/6 – 10 Super Silly Circus Camp! Learn what it takes to perform the biggest show on earth. Learn acrobatic skills including juggling, balance & just plain clowning around!

6/13 – 17 Voyage to Vietnam
 Home to a traveling exhibit Voyages to Vietnam: Celebrating The Tet Festival, get up close w/the culture & fun of the Tet Festival. Take part in a dragon dance, taste unique cuisine, learn how to write the Vietnamese alphabet.

6/20 – 24 Food Science
 Explore your five senses! Learn healthy eating habits, make a recipe book, prepare tasty dishes such as applesauce, ice cream, butter & more!

6/27 – 7/1 Games Galore!
 Create games & test them out in the museum, make paper toys, work collaboratively to problem solve, & have a Museum-wide scavenger hunt!
 
7/5 – 8  Totally Tet!  Celebrate the Vietnamese New Year, LCM style! Explore our traveling exhibit — Voyages to Vietnam: Celebrating The Tet Festival — as we celebrate the Lunar New year w/puppets shows, lion dances, & music!  Learn values that the festival celebrates—family, home, community.

7/11 – 15 Awesome Architecture
 Design a house, join in the development of Happy City, & explore eco friendly building materials as we “build it up” in this STEM camp! Use all sorts of building materials & test for earthquake stability, build w/ Legos, etc.

7/18 - 22 Come SWIM with Us (Science With Inexpensive Materials)
 Explore science in totally hands on way!  Make your own robot, test circuits, construct a catapult, & more!

7/25 - 29  The World's a Stage!
Take part in daily Improv lessons, create puppets for a hands-on puppet show, & adapt a story for a camp play! Make costumes & props! Special performance for parents & friends.

8/1 - 5 Money Matters
 Explore different ways people earn money. Learn to make decisions on earning, spending & saving & try your hand at designing your own money! Understand exchange rates as we compare our currency to Vietnam’s! 

Art Camps (7 to 10 years)
 

7/ 18 – 25  Sculpture, Sculpture Everywhere!  Express yourself in the third dimension! Create sculpture out of different mediums. Explore famous artists & celebrate your creations w/ an art show at the end of camp!

7/25 – 29  DRAWesome!
Fill the pages of your sketchbook experimenting w/ charcoal, ink, pastels, & collage. Draw from observation & imagination using traditional & mixed media.

8/1 - 5  Meet the Masters
 Explore famous art movements & create paintings inspired by the masters! Create a Post-Impressionist still life, use vibrant colors of Fauvism, & explore Surrealism. Put together an art show at the end of camp.

8/3 - 7  The Art of Printmaking!
Explore printmaking techniques & tools used by different artists as you make stamps, stencils, prints, collages & more. Look at money in a new way & the art & science of printed currency.
