Wing Watchers Club - Birdwatching!

Participation is free - space is limited

February 11, 2016
The National Park Service, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and the Orleans Audubon Society has teamed up with NORDC to offer The Wing Watchers Club—a group designed for kids in grades 5 - 8 to meet for games, fun, hikes and lots of birdwatching.

Professionals from the sponsoring organizations are accomplished birdwatchers and lead each session as they meet at Gernon Brown Recreation Center and take a walk through City Park. The walk begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. Participation is free, but space is limited.

Wing Watchers Club – Fall 2015

Saturday, Oct. 17 – Let's Fly! (Introduction to birds and birdwatching)

Saturday, Oct. 24 – Nature Detectives (Where can we find birds? What can we learn using the clues they give us?)

Saturday, Nov. 7 – It's a Bird's Life (Bird habits, migrations, and where they call home)

Saturday, Nov. 14 – Meet Birds of Prey (Meet real birds up close and in person!)

Adults are welcome to come along or can drop you off. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring bug spray and a water bottle. Bring your binoculars or borrow them from the club, and be sure to have enough energy to walk one mile on a birdwatching walk in City Park.

The club is free, but space is limited so registration is required. Register with the Jean Lafitte National Park Ranger by completing a Wing Watchers registration form for each child grades 5-8. You'll get a confirmation when your registsatration is received. At the first meeting, parents and guardians will be provided with NORDC permission and medical release information to fill out. If you have questions, email the park or call Ranger Kristy at (504) 589-3882 ext. 225.
