Build By Ear Workshop at the French Market

Free workshop focusing on music and architecture!

February 11, 2016
Build By Ear is an exciting new workshop developed by PlayBuild to show how music, architecture and a little
creativity can be used hand-in-hand to re-imagine the world around us. The great news is that PLAYBUILD NOLA
will host free monthly Build by Ear: Bridging Music and Architecture workshops indoors and out at the New Orleans Jazz Park National Historical Park once a month.

Each month, workshops will focus on a different musician that helped make New Orleans a hub for music and culture. Kids will learn about a New Orleans musician’s life and work and then ‘build’ a house collage for them while listening to their music. The result: a take-home poster and an appreciation for New Orleans music!! Inspired by Italian architect Federico Babina and with music curated by local musician Jason Marsalis, Build By Ear seeks to inspire the kid in all of us to see music and listen to architecture.

The workshops will coincide with the Kids Swing and Sing series featuring Jayna Morgan and the Swing Setters. Find more information on that series here.

Find the indoor “Build By Ear” workshops at 11:30 a.m. before Kids Swing and Sing. Then, outdoor workshops occur in the Playbuild tent at 12:30 just outside The Jazz Park when the live music begins!

All materials are provided by the Playbuild staff. Just come ready to listen and build!  Each workshop will be tied to a specific New Orleans musician and architectural style.
