Children's Healthcare Assistance Plan at Children's Hospital

July 30, 2015

Your child’s health is a major priority as a parent. Good health ensures your child continues to grow and develop.  But healthcare is expensive and often a major source of stress and confusion. A lot of families fall into the bracket where their income is too high to qualify for Medicaid, but their financial resources still limit their access to quality care. This can be a very frustrating scenario for families struggling to make ends meet.  Luckily, Children’s Hospital is here to help.

The Children’s Healthcare Assistance Plan (CHAP) at Children’s Hospital is available to assist families who are seeking specialty care for their children. This plan includes children whose families fall under a specific family income umbrella, between 200 percent—the Medicaid limit—and 350 percent of the poverty income guidelines. For example, a family of four must bring in between $48,500 and $84,875 annually in order to be eligible.

Eligibility opens up new avenues of healthcare for your child, including access to renowned institutions like Children’s Hospital New Orleans. CHAP covers services like outpatient clinics, inpatient, short stay services, emergency room, and other therapies, even dental care provided by Children’s Hospital and The Tooth Bus. These hospital and specialty services are provided to children from birth up to 21-years with or without insurance.

To apply for CHAP, submit a completed application which is available online along with your proof of income. A simple application can make a world of difference. Together, we can improve your child’s overall health, paving the way for a brighter future.

Since its opening in 1955, Children's Hospital has continually offered the most advanced pediatric care. With more than 40 specialties, 247 beds and nearly 400 physicians, it is the only full-service hospital exclusively for children in Louisiana and the Gulf South.
