A Spoonful of Sugar

Etiquette and Cooking Classes for Your Child

July 30, 2015
At A Spoonful of Sugar, their main goal is to give children the social skills to last a lifetime. Classes in both etiquette and basic cooking for children are offered in their brand new space in Lakeview.

Manners classes are based on the 3 fundamental principles of etiquette created by Emily Post: Respect, Consideration & Honesty. In these classes, children explore why manners are so valuable in everyday life and not only for a special occasion. By making manners practical, children are more likely to continue to practice the skills on a daily basis. Manners are certainly a skill that needs to be practiced over time in order to create confidence. Manners classes are offered for ages 4-6 and for ages 7-up.

Each class is limited to a small group in order to practice social skills, while keeping the art of etiquette & cooking personal, as it should be. Classes are also designed to suit the developmental needs of each age group.

Owner Betty Rabe teaches these classes, along with her well-trained team. Betty has a master’s degree in Education, worked many years in the local education system and is certified by the Emily Post Institute. She started Charmed Etiquette in 2009 and realized how much manners and the love of cooking go hand in hand, as well as being fun for both girls and boys! This is how A Spoonful of Sugar was created. With a little bit of fun…all of the lessons needed in life can be learned with ease! They want to teach children the love of healthy cooking along with the charm of good conversation and setting the table to make dining a fun and enjoyable experience for the entire family!

Cooking classes are a fun way to get children involved with nutrition and basic cooking skills. Children will practice and learn skills they can use at home to prepare simple meals and snacks on their own.

Owner Betty Rabe and her staff work hard to make A Spoonful of Sugar the perfect place for children to be “charmed” with manners and develop the love of cooking!
